MIAA high school football state tournament opening round scores – The Patriot Ledger

The MIAA high school football state tournament will kick off on Thursday night.
Abington is the lone local team playing in the playoffs on Thursday night, as the No. 2 Green Wave will host No. 15 Stoneham at 7 p.m. The other 22 South Shore teams that qualified for the playoffs will take the field on Friday night.
The South Shore teams that didn’t qualify for the playoffs will play the first of two non-qualifier games this weekend. That action is spread out across Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Div. 6 – No. 15 Stoneham 22, No. 2 Abington 14: The Green Wave (6-3) were upset in the Sweet 16. Michael Reilly threw TD passes to AJ Nash (11 yards) and Kingston Maxwell (34) in the loss.

Div. 1 – No. 8 BC High 46, No. 9 Taunton 8: The Eagles (6-3) got two rushing touchdowns each from sophomore QB Kise Flannery and junior RB Jackson Richard. Marshall Rice and Sirewl Cox both returned interceptions for touchdowns. BC High next gets a rematch with Catholic Conference rival No. 1 St. John’s Prep (9-0).

Div. 1 – No. 12 Weymouth 20, No. 5 Lincoln-Sudbury 0: Cam Aieta scored three touchdowns and picked off a pass as the 12th-seeded Wildcats (7-2) upset No. 5 L-S (7-2) on the road. Aieta scored on a 46-yard run and caught TD passes of 25 yards and 24 yards from Tyler Nordstrom. The 25-yarder came on a flea-flicker. Weymouth made a goal-line stand at the end of the first half to preserve a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats will play No. 4 Andover (8-1) in the Elite 8. This is believed to be Weymouth’s first playoff win ever.
Div. 2 – No. 5 Barnstable 42, No. 12 North Quincy 7: The Raiders fall to 3-6. Mikey Galligan was 15 of 28 passing for 125 yards and a TD (3 yards to Will Conley) in the loss. Nate Sampson had eight catches for 84 yards.
Div. 2 – No. 3 Marshfield 55, No. 14 Plymouth North 34: The Rams used a pair of defensive touchdowns to improve to 7-2 while the Blue Eagles fall to 3-6. Davin True ran for three TDs while Tor Maas had two TD rushes of his own to go with a 68-yard TD pass to Nic Cupples. Charlie Leach forced a fumble and then took it 76 yards for a score while Gio Joseph had a 95-yard pick-six to go with several long returns in the kicking game. Shamus Whiting threw four TD passes in the losses, all of which were for big gains. Logan Zemotel had TD catches for 48 and 34 yards, while Lakih Moores had a 70-yard one and Rilee Garsh had a 66-yard one.

Div. 3 – No. 1 Milford 38, No. 16 Stoughton 7: The Black Knights drop to 3-6.
Div. 3 – No. 4 Walpole 46, No. 13 Hingham 15: The Harbormen drop to 4-5.
Div. 3 – No. 3 Milton 30, No. 14 Minnechaug 14: The Wildcats (6-3) snapped a three-game losing skid as QB Patrick Miller threw 3 TD passes and Nathan Ehui rushed for 190 yards and a score. Miller had scoring passes of 19 and 5 yards to Ronan Sammon and 64 yards to Ferris Collins. Ehui had a 56-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, and Aidan Rowley kicked a 37-yard field goal. Milton will play No. 5 Dartmouth (9-0) in the quarterfinals.

Div. 3 – No. 2 Billerica 29, No. 15 Plymouth South 27 (OT): The Panthers’ (5-4) upset bid fell just short.
Div. 4 – No. 1 Duxbury 33, No. 16 Bedford 7: The Dragons improve to 7-1.
Div. 4 – No. 4 Tewksbury 35, No. 13 Canton 33: The upset bid for the Bulldogs (5-4) fell just short.
Div. 4 – No. 7 Scituate 47, No. 10 Wayland 36: The Sailors improve to 6-3. Jackson Belsan was 12 of 16 passing for 250 yards and five TDs. Sam Allard (2 catches for 98 yards) and Lawson Foley each had a pair of TD receptions.
Div. 4 – No. 14 Marblehead 21, No. 3 Middleboro 12: The Sachems fall to 6-3.
Div. 5 – No. 1 Hanover 42, No. 16 Glouchester 16: Ben Scalzi (11 of 15 passing) had 323 passing yards and six TDs in the first half for the Hawks (9-0). John McDonald (6-156, 3 TDs) and Mehki Bryan (3-127, 2 TDs) had big days as receivers. Sebastian Brown had a 32-yard TD catch and also added a QB sack on defense. 
Div. 6 – No. 1 Norwell 55, No. 16 Bay Path 20: The Clippers improved to 8-1. Will Bostom had three TD runs while Jack Luccarelli had two rushing TDs and one passing TD.
Div. 6 – No. 6 Cardinal Spellman 41, No. 11 St. Mary’s 30: The Cardinals (7-2) avenged a 12-0 loss from two weeks ago. Matt O’Donnell ran for 232 yards and two TDs and threw a 20-yard TD pass to Jay Comeau. Chris Soto ran for two TDs.

Div. 7 – No. 4 Rockland 14, No. 13 Millbury 7: Millbury scored with 8 seconds left in the first half to take a 7-0 lead, but Terran Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a score. He rushed for a 59-yard TD run in the second half for the Bulldogs (6-3). Williams finished with 188 all-purpose yards. Jordan DePina had 95 yards rushing. Jax Leduc had a pair of interceptions.
Div. 7 – No. 5 Clinton 38, No. 12 South Shore Tech 8: The Vikings fall to 5-4. Clinton raced out to 25-0 lead after one quarter.
Div. 7 – No. 2 Cohasset 35, No. 15 Manchester Essex 28: The Skippers (5-3) thwarted an upset bid. Liam Appleton ran for a TD and threw a TD pass to Will McGlaughlin. Gus Greene, Will Norgeot and Max Monahan each had one rushing TD. Ben Joyce had a tackle in the end zone for a safety on defense as Cohasset took an 8-6 lead into halftime.
Div. 7 – No. 7 Mashpee 32, No. 10 Blue Hills 14: The Warriors fall to 5-4. Matt Begin scored on a 2-yard run, and Mike McDonagh threw a 5-yard TD pass to Reinaldo Sepulveda in the loss.
Div. 7 – No. 3 West Bridgewater 39, No. 14 South Hadley 8: The Wildcats improve to 7-2 behind four rushing TDs from James Harris. Sam Salter threw a TD pass to Luke Destrampe. Christian Packard had a rushing TD.
Div. 8 – No. 2 Carver 55, No. 15 Franklin County Tech 0: The Crusaders improve to 9-0. Tyler Lennox (12 of 14 passing, 253 yards) had six first-half TD passes, four of which were caught by Robbie Peterson five catches, 114 yards). Jameson Helms and Jack Balzarini each had one TD catch. Nolan Kenneally and Patrick Attaya each ran for a TD. Carver’s defense intercepted five passes, two apiece coming from Derek Lopes and Jake Hyland.
Div. 8 – No. 12 Randolph 3, No. 5 Ware 0: The Blue Devils (4-4) knocked off the undefeated No. 5 seed. Alin Norsica’s 30-yard field goal were the lone points of the game. Nate Gomes-Correia went over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season.

Whitman-Hanson 14, Medfield 0: Cam Beltramini rushed for a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, and Owen Brown added a two-point conversion to power the host Panthers (4-5) over Medfield (2-7). Matt Lee had three sacks for W-H, and Johnny Walker made a team-high 12 tackles.
Nauset 35, Oliver Ames 7: The Tigers fall to 0-8.
Belmont Hill 37, Milton Academy 6: The Mustangs fall to 3-4.
Thayer Academy 38, Groton 8: Quarterback Arnaud Dugas was 13 of 18 passing for 201 yards and 4 TDs to power the Tigers (2-5). Dugas also threw for three 2-point conversions.
Bridgewater-Raynham 27, Quincy 6: The Trojans improve to 2-7 while the Presidents fall to 2-7.
Braintree 28, Brockton 20: The Wamps improve to 5-4 while the Boxers fall to 3-5. James Curry had 23 carries for 157 yards and 3 TDs for Braintree; his scores covered 11, 1 and 32 yards. Sam Garrity added a 19-yard TD run. Dan DaSilva’s 2-point conversion run after Curry’s 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter put the Wamps ahead to stay, 21-20. Garoid Stones and Calvin Tran kicked PATs.
Wareham 44, Hull 21: The Pirates fall to 3-5.
Silver Lake 37, Medway 6: The Lakers improve to 2-7. Nolan Dickinson rushed for 136 yards and two TDs. Mike Beauchesne finished with four TDs (three rushing, one passing). Aidan McIver made nine tackles.
East Bridgewater 20, Dover-Sherborn 13: The Vikings improve to 3-6. Ethan Pohl scored the winning TD on a QB sneak with 29 seconds remaining. Sophomore James Madden ran for a TD and finished with over 100 yards on the night. Gavin McCloud also had a TD catch on a pass from Pohl.
Southeastern 43, Holbrook/Avon 26: The Hawks improve to 6-3 while the Bulldogs fall to 4-5. Southeastern’s seven different rushers combined for 288 yards on the ground. Owen Tripp led the rushing attack with three carries for 88 yards and a TD. Leo Mendes, Mehkei Gibson, Greg Tiso and Joey Tully all had one rushing TD. Jose DeAndrade forced a safety on defense.
Pembroke 50, Archbishop Williams 25: The Titans improve to 3-6 while the Bishops drop to 3-6. The Titans exploded for 36 points in the second quarter. Brendan Kanya rushed for 134 yards and five TDs in the win. He also caught a pair of passes, had four 2-point conversions and made six tackles on defense. Jayden Leonard returned a kick 95 yards for a score and hauled in a 26-yard TD pass from Owen Pace. Pace also threw a 26-yard TD pass to Nehemiah Holtz. Joe Schwartz ran for a TD and threw a pair of passing TDs to his brother, Nick, in the loss. Luke Charlton had a 70-yard TD rush.
