Glasner to Leave Crystal Palace After Rejecting New Contract

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season after deciding against renewing his contract.

The Austrian coach said the decision was taken months ago and communicated privately to club chairman Steve Parish.

Glasner hopes the clarity will help Palace arrest their poor run of form and refocus for the remainder of the campaign.

Decision Taken Months Ago, Club Kept Informed

Speaking ahead of Palace’s trip to Sunderland, Glasner revealed he informed Parish of his intention in October.

He explained that both parties agreed to keep the decision confidential during a congested fixture period.

The manager said he only informed the players on Friday, believing the timing was now right.

According to Glasner, the aim was to avoid unnecessary distractions while the club navigated a demanding schedule.

Frustration Over Progress After Historic Success

Glasner has been linked with an exit from Selhurst Park for several months.

Sources close to the club point to frustrations over last summer’s transfer activity.

The manager previously suggested Palace failed to build on their historic FA Cup triumph and European qualification.

That sense of stagnation appears to have influenced his desire for a fresh challenge.

Manager Denies Transfer Window Influence

Glasner insisted his decision was unrelated to Palace’s January transfer business.

He dismissed suggestions that recent squad changes played any role in his departure plans.

The Palace boss said he has not spoken to any other club about his next role.

He stressed that his relationship with Parish remains strong and respectful.

Guehi Sale Confirmed As Squad Changes Loom

Alongside his own announcement, Glasner confirmed captain Marc Guehi is close to completing a January move.

The defender has attracted strong interest, with Manchester City among the clubs monitoring his situation.

Glasner admitted the timing was difficult but said honesty was necessary.

Palace are expected to reinvest proceeds from the deal before the window closes.

Focus Remains On Ending Season Strongly

Despite the uncertainty, Glasner pledged full commitment until the end of his contract.

He told players he intends to deliver the best season in Crystal Palace’s history.

Palace are currently four points better off than at the same stage last season.

The club also remain active in Europe, with a Conference League play-off against Zrinjski Mostar confirmed.

Glasner Hopes Clarity Sparks Turnaround

Palace are without a win in nine matches across all competitions.

Glasner believes the announcement can remove speculation and refocus the squad.

He admitted he initially wanted the decision made public before the transfer window opened.

However, he accepted advice that delaying the announcement was best for the club.

For now, Glasner’s priority is restoring momentum and pushing for silverware before his departure.
