Algeria, Nigeria Set for High-Stakes Afcon 2025 Quarter-Final Clash

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Marrakech for their Afcon 2025 quarter-final clash after resolving a bonus dispute.
The team travelled from their base in Fès following confirmation that outstanding match bonuses had been paid.

The development eases tension within the camp ahead of Saturday’s crucial tie against Algeria.

Team Travelled After Government Intervention

The Super Eagles left Fès for Marrakech on Wednesday afternoon.
Their movement followed assurances from the Federal Government that owed bonuses had been released.

Earlier, players reportedly threatened to boycott training and travel plans.
The protest stemmed from unpaid match-winning bonuses handled by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Finance Ministry Confirms Bonus Payments

Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, confirmed the resolution via her official X account.
She said the government worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria to overcome foreign exchange challenges.

“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses,” she said.
She added that the process had delayed payments despite funds being approved earlier.

Foreign Currency Issue Addressed

Uzoka-Anite explained that players requested payment in foreign currency.
This preference required additional regulatory steps before disbursement.

According to her, a fast-track conversion process was introduced to speed up payments.
All group-stage bonuses have now passed regulatory checks and transfers are underway.

Players Expect Payments Immediately

The Minister confirmed that transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts are in progress.
She said funds should reflect within one or two days.

“The final transfers are currently in flight,” she stated.
She also assured that future payments would follow a more predictable and efficient process.

Focus Shifts Back to Afcon Ambition

Government officials reaffirmed their commitment to the team’s welfare.
The aim is to keep players focused as the tournament enters its decisive stage.

“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team,” Uzoka-Anite said.
She stressed that the ultimate goal remains winning the Afcon trophy.

Boost Ahead of Algeria Clash

The Super Eagles are expected to face Algeria’s Fennecs on Saturday in Marrakech.
Officials believe the bonus resolution has lifted morale within the squad.

Nigeria will now turn full attention to the quarter-final showdown.
A place in the semi-finals is firmly at stake as Afcon 2025 reaches its business end.
