The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that an explosion occurred on Tuesday at the General Hospital, Bagudo, sparking panic among residents of the area. Authorities, however, have assured the public that no lives were lost and that the security situation is firmly under control.
According to the police, the incident caused a loud blast that was heard across the community, leading to temporary fear and confusion among hospital staff and nearby residents.
Security Agencies Respond Swiftly
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kebbi State, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies responded immediately after the explosion was reported.
He disclosed that a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, and local Vigilante personnel was quickly deployed to the scene to secure the area and prevent any further threats.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman stated.
EOD Specialists Deployed, Building Damaged
SP Usman further explained that Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts were deployed to carry out a detailed assessment of the affected area.
While confirming that no casualties were recorded, the police spokesperson noted that one building within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage. He added that the occupants had already evacuated the building before the explosion, preventing any loss of life.
Police Increase Tactical Presence
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State has ordered additional tactical deployments to the area to maintain public order and reassure residents.
The police also confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and identify those responsible.
Residents Urged to Remain Calm
The Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital, allowing security operatives to conduct their duties without obstruction as investigations continue.
Although the cause of the explosion has not yet been established as of press time, authorities say efforts are underway to uncover the source of the blast. Normalcy has since returned to Bagudo after the initial panic.
