Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has urged the Mambas to defeat Nigeria in the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, backing his message with a hefty financial incentive.

The Mozambican leader congratulated the national team for qualifying for the knockout stage of the tournament in Morocco, describing the feat as historic and worthy of national pride.

Mambas Secure Round-of-16 Clash With Nigeria

Mozambique sealed a meeting with the Super Eagles after finishing third in Group F. Despite a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in their final group game, the Mambas accumulated enough points to advance.

Nigeria have emerged as one of the most impressive sides at the tournament, setting up a stern test for the southern African nation.

₦11.3m Bonus Offered for Super Eagles Upset

In a New Year message issued on January 1, 2026, President Chapo praised the players and coaching staff for their courage, discipline and determination during the group stage.

According to Jornal Notícias, the president announced an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais for each player and member of the coaching crew if they defeat Nigeria and reach the quarterfinals. The incentive is valued at approximately ₦11.3 million per person.

President Chapo reaffirmed that the entire nation stands firmly behind the team and expressed confidence in their ability to overcome Nigeria.

Nigeria and Mozambique will clash at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 hours.
