Lagos Govt Gives ₦40M to Families of Fallen LASTMA Officers

In a heartfelt gesture of recognition and support, the Lagos State Government has released ₦40 million to the families of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers who tragically lost their lives while serving the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, led the distribution of ₦2 million each to 20 families during a solemn ceremony held on Wednesday at the LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Giwa underscored that while the financial support cannot replace the lives lost, it represents a meaningful acknowledgment of the officers’ courage and commitment to public service.

“This intervention is a symbol of our gratitude. The sacrifices of these officers will never be forgotten, and their families will never bear the burden of loss alone,” Giwa said.

Mr. Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, praised the initiative, noting that it strengthens public confidence in government and motivates serving officers to continue performing their duties with dedication.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the fallen officers as patriots whose legacy of selflessness, discipline, and service will remain a permanent part of the Authority’s history.

Adding a personal note, Mrs. Coker, wife of LASTMA’s pioneer General Manager, Late Engr. Adebayo Coker, urged the beneficiary families to use the support to invest in the education and welfare of their children, whom she described as the lasting legacy of the officers’ sacrifices.

The ceremony ended with expressions of gratitude from the beneficiaries, highlighting the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its workforce and its resolve to honor those who gave their lives in service to the public.

Among the beneficiaries were Ola Adepeju, Arogundade Oladunni, Adeyemo Eniola, Falana Adeola, Bakare Fatima, Giwa Oyindamola, Dada Rebecca, Akinsemoyin Olasunbo, Sanni Oyeyemi, Junaid Deborah, Aladaba Adewunmi, Alimi Morenike, Omosebi Jumoke, Alowooye Mojisola, and Shittu Yetunde.
