Three people have been confirmed dead and several others sustained injuries after a Dangote Cement truck crashed into a mini bus and tricycles in Lagos on Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred at Iyana-Merian Bus Stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway during the early hours of the day.
Brake Failure Triggers Deadly Collision
Eyewitnesses said the truck was travelling from the Sango Ota axis when it reportedly lost control. The driver allegedly suffered brake failure before ramming into a mini bus and four tricycles waiting to pick up passengers.
The impact crushed the vehicles and threw commuters into panic. Residents rushed to assist victims before emergency responders arrived.
As of the time of filing this report, one corpse remained on the road, while another victim was trapped inside the wrecked mini bus.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and emergency responders later arrived at the scene. They cordoned off the area and began rescue operations.
Injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Authorities had yet to release the identities of the deceased.
Traffic flow along the expressway slowed significantly as responders cleared the wreckage.
Rising Concerns Over Truck Safety
The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of heavy-duty trucks on major Lagos highways. Residents and transport operators have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of vehicle roadworthiness standards.
Similar accidents have been reported along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in recent months, raising questions about brake maintenance and speed regulation.
