AFCON 2025: Tinubu Applauds Super Eagles’ Dominant 2-0 Quarter-Final Win Over Algeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has showered praise on the Super Eagles following their commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hailing the performance as a moment of pride for the nation.

Reacting shortly after the match, the Nigerian leader took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to celebrate the team’s display, describing it as both brilliant and inspiring.

“Brilliant performance… Inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians,” Tinubu wrote.

Osimhen Leads Nigeria Into AFCON Semi-Finals

Nigeria booked their place in the AFCON 2025 semi-finals thanks to a masterclass from Victor Osimhen, who once again proved decisive on the continental stage. The Super Eagles broke the deadlock just two minutes after the restart when Osimhen rose highest to power home a header, shifting the momentum firmly in Nigeria’s favour.

The reigning African Player of the Year then turned provider before the hour mark, delivering a perfectly weighted assist for Akor Adams, who calmly finished to seal the win and extinguish any hopes of an Algerian comeback.

With the victory, Nigeria set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash against tournament hosts Morocco, as dreams of a fourth AFCON title gather momentum.

Osimhen: “The Whole Team Deserves the Credit”

After being named Man of the Match, Osimhen was quick to deflect personal praise, insisting the result was down to collective effort rather than individual brilliance.

“A very big congratulations to the whole team for the kind of performance we put in against a very good Algeria side,” Osimhen said.
“For me, I just did my job fighting for the team, whether through goals or assists. Every player deserves praise.”

Nigeria’s Title Charge Gains Momentum

The Super Eagles’ disciplined display, tactical maturity, and attacking efficiency against one of Africa’s strongest sides have further strengthened belief among fans and pundits that Nigeria are genuine contenders for the AFCON 2025 crown.

With the backing of the nation’s president and millions of supporters at home and abroad, attention now turns to the semi-final showdown with Morocco a test that could define Nigeria’s quest for continental glory.
