The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has paid medical bills totalling ₦53 million for patients receiving treatment in Lagos hospitals.
The intervention covered patients on admission at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and three general hospitals located in Surulere.
₦33.6m Settled at LUTH, Others Benefit in Surulere
At LUTH, Idi-Araba, Gbajabiamila offset medical bills amounting to ₦33.6 million for patients currently on admission.
He also paid ₦8.6 million to clear the outstanding bills of patients at the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital, Iyun, Surulere, alongside other health facilities in the area.
Former Speaker Extends Support to New Year Babies
Beyond settling hospital bills, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives also presented cash gifts to babies born in the early hours of the New Year.
He splashed monetary gifts on the first baby of 2026, born at exactly 12:01 a.m. at the Gbaja Maternal and Child Centre, Randle Road, as well as other babies delivered shortly after.
Gesture Driven by Compassion, Says Gbajabiamila
Gbajabiamila explained that the gesture was inspired by the Yuletide spirit and the reality that many patients struggle to meet medical expenses during difficult economic times.
He urged well-meaning Nigerians and privileged members of society to consistently support those in need within their communities.
LUTH Management Commends Timely Intervention
At LUTH, Gbajabiamila was received by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemi, who expressed appreciation for the support.
Prof. Adeyemi described the intervention as timely, noting that it provided critical relief for patients facing financial challenges amid prevailing economic pressures.
Gbajabiamila also congratulated mothers of the New Year babies on their safe deliveries and wished them good health and wellbeing.
