The ongoing verbal clash between Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the camp of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, escalated yesterday as Wike’s aide dismissed Obi as a politician without a defined path to the 2027 presidential election.
Responding to Obi’s criticism of the poor state of public schools in the FCT, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, accused the former Anambra State governor of resorting to media theatrics instead of addressing his waning political influence.
“It’s amusing that someone without a political platform for the 2027 elections has turned himself into a wandering politician,” Olayinka stated.
He further described Obi as an “Internally Displaced Politician (IDP)” lacking a stable party structure, questioning whether any party would still grant him a presidential ticket “just because he keeps repeating his one-shoe, one-wristwatch tale.”
Defending Wike’s performance, Olayinka highlighted that the FCT administration was focused on “tangible and verifiable development,” noting that 73 schools were currently undergoing renovation across the six Area Councils, with 21 projects already completed. He contrasted this progress with what he called Obi’s “beer parlour style of governance” during his tenure in Anambra State.
